Statement of Intent

For now and for future reference, I own nothing. Not this picture, not future pictures, no house and no car.

Welcome!

I am a great fan of roleplaying, strategy and tabletop wargames and this will be an outlet for my own thoughts and musings, projects, as well as an opportunity to compile some of the strange and wonderful things I find on the internet. The focus will likely be on Warhammer, and Warhammer 40k, though my interests range wider and I see no need to bottle myself in.

I have decided to create a blog for several reasons. Firstly, I am finding the comments I post on other people's blogs are expanding to unfair lengths. These are not my blogs, and my opinions should be shared with anyone interested, not foisted on other hapless fanboys.

Secondly, I am presently engaged in writing a masters dissertation on why various normative standards can be said to matter in some way more than others, with a focus on the limits of moral obligation. You are not interested in this. At this point I am not even interested in this. This blog then sees its genesis as an exercise in procrastination. Nonetheless, Philosophy, and the exercise of thinking critically should bear on all things. Even plastic soldiers!

So who will this be of interest to? I expect nobody! I don't have a source of rumours like the truly excellent Faeit 212. Nor do I have the means to provide hobby tips of the standard of the sadly seemingly retired From the Warp, among other excellent examples. I do however have a keen and earnest interest my various hobbies, and a vision of what it is that makes them great, and what sadly detracts from and dilutes them.

When I get time, and a camera (yes I am that much of an amateur) I would also love to share my various projects. I have an ever expanding crusade of Black Templars, a swift and deadly Eldar Aspect Warrior Host, a horde of rampaging greenskins, Scheming Samurai Skaven, and last but not least, a doughty dwarf throng (though I try to keep it zipped away). I have many more ideas in the pipeline which time and money have thus far kept me from.

Finally, I also am working at designing a few of my own games (yaaawn). In progress is a tabletop emulation of Fallout Tactics, A game for space ship warfare that sees players design craft and assume the mantle of captain of a single vessel, a fantasy skirmish game that replaces dice rolls with a deck of cards for its element of randomness, and a pen and paper roleplaying game where players assume the mantle of the leader of a burgeoning civilisation. If any of them ever get finished I will provide the rules and resources for anyone who might be interested.

More to come!
